Val Thorens, French Alps – Skiing Adventure
Whether you’re a seasoned skier, skied a bit or a complete newbie to skiing, the French Alps are for you. With their large variety of resorts, boasting steep black runs and leisurely green runs alike, you can find what you’re looking for.
Val Thorens is the highest resort in Europe, meaning you’re virtually always guaranteed good snow during ski season, however you’re also likely to get a good snow storm too.
Read on to see if Val Thorens is for you!
Val Thorens is a purpose built resort. There’s no ‘sweet, winter village’ feel to it like La Tania or Courcheval.
You also don’t get many trees this high up (which, if you’re like me, I love a good run through trees. Preferably a green or blue! I’m partial to a potter)
Now, we stayed in one of my fathers friends ski-in flats. We unfortunately had the worst timing.
At the time we stayed, there was at least 300 Irish (seemed to be) college students were staying.
They managed to kick open the lift so it stopped working, throw up onto the piste, play music into the early hours and last, but not least, were ‘using the bathroom’ onto our BALCONY. Gross.
There was also a stabbing at the Irish pub nearby on our first night.
This might put you off slightly, however according to my father, who has stayed 5/6 times, this was the first time anything like this has happened during his stay.
The resort has 2 supermarkets and 11 restaurants so there’s definitely some choice!
La Piscine in the centre had the most amazing duck I’ve ever had. So incredible I had it 2 days in a row! Would highly recommend them.
